What you need for your trial class or classes.
Try to arrive 15min prior to class, as we will require that you complete a waiver form and we will try to find an appropriate judo uniform for your trial. Please bring sweat pant bottoms and a sweat/tee shirt in case uniforms are not available. Please ensure finger and toenails are trimmed short. Do not wear anything metal: such as jewelry, metal hair clasps, earrings, studs, or a watch on the mats.
What you can expect from your first class.
Depending on your experience, you will be paired up with experienced members who will introduce you to the various components of the class and a few basic techniques. You will work at a very moderate pace, regardless of your level of fitness or level of experience during the trial period. Falls, body movement and training etiquette are covered, as well as entry-level judo skills. This will also give you a chance to get to know the instructors and make some new friends among the members. Judo is a highly social activity
What is the process for joining after the free trial?
We never accept membership fees on the first class. If, after the trial class/classes, you wish to join and we feel you fit our program, you will be asked to send us an email informing us of your intent to join, we will in turn forward you links to our online registration as well as the Judo Canada membership link. Payments are made monthly via cash, cheque (payable to David Miller) or email transfer (annexjudoacademy@gmail.com). There are no long-term contract or memberships. AJA training fees are only paid on a month to month basis. You only pay for the months that you attend. Inform us in advance that you will not be training and you will not be charged for any months that you do not attend.
Judo Ontario Membership (not necessary for one time trial class) www.judoontario.ca/annual-rates
The Annex Judo Academy is a member of Judo Ontario, the provincial association that governs the sport in Ontario. A 12-week introductory membership is available for beginners for only $21.30. Beyond the introductory period students will be required to upgrade to a full Judo Ontario membership. This will be explained in greater detail during your trial class.
What is the ethos or etiquette of Judo?
Respect, sportsmanship, politeness, good manners, and common decency are all part of Judo. All students of Judo are expected to train themselves in Judo Etiquette and make it part of their Judo life. In doing so, a student will eventually come to understand the full principle and spirit of Judo. Mutual respect is a corner stone of the study of Judo.
