Dear club members and friends/family
We will be hosting our second annual fundraiser Throw-A-Thon. All proceeds of this event will go towards the replacement of our older wore out judo mats.
A throw-a-thon is simple: students will please solicit sponsorship from families and friends for throwing. Similar to other marathon type fund raisers like walk-a-thons, bowl-a-thons, etc. sponsors can pay a fixed amount or an amount per throw. A maximum of 50 throws will be counted for sponsorship; for each throw being counted, the student will participate as both “tori” (person performing the throw), and as “uke” (person being thrown). YOUTH ARE NOT TO APPROACH STRANGERS FOR SPONSORSHIP!
We have selected the throw-a-thon as our fund raising activity for a number of reasons. This is an activity that all students can participate in regardless of their grade or age. Unlike the more widely known forms of fundraising, where the students or their parents end up selling something like chocolates, candies or cookies, funds are raised by utilizing their developed skills in judo. There are no costs to the Club for product or facilities, as the space will be donated to us for this event. Every participant will receive a certificate of completion to show to sponsors as well as keep as a record of recognition for their achievement. Lastly, this will be a fun personal challenge for all of us.
The group throw-a-thon will be on Sunday May 07 2017 during our regularly scheduled class. For those students who cannot participate in the group throw-a-thon on the May 29th, we will arrange for them to do their throws during their next class attended so that everyone has the chance to take part and contribute. Our younger children will be asked to perform 50 independent break falls instead of 50 throws. Break falls performed as follows. 10 seated back break falls, 10 squatting back break falls, 5 standing back break falls, 25 rolling break falls.
Our total target is $6000.00, however we realize that it is unlikely that the entire amount will be raised through our throw-a-thon. Participation is respectfully requested and expected by all students in what is a fun, judo specific activity to help the Club to prepare for receiving our special guests. We are asking that everyone strive to raise a min of $50 in total pledges. Members achieving over $100 in pledges collected will receive a special club gift.
All pledges need to turned in by June 06, 2017

Thank you very much for your support!
